Project: Assisted Conception Unit, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
Client: NHS Tayside
Principal Contractor: Morrison Construction
Contract Value: £2.3M

The existing Assisted Conception Unit that is currently located in Ward 35 of Ninewells Hospital, Dundee no longer meets the requirements of new legislation governing fertility clinics. The proposed site for the new facility consists of the existing Ward 35 facility within Ninewells and a new infill development spread over three floors. After consideration it was agreed that the current facility will remain in operation during the course of the works. The project will have to be phased into stages to allow the continued operation of the current facility. The project is being developed and delivered under Frameworks Scotland and the principal contractors input at design stage is invaluable when assessing the practicalities of building within an occupied hospital environment.

Other issues being considered relate to traffic management within the grounds of an occupied hospital and existing service connections.

Contract Value: £1.7 million

Ward 9 is an existing single storey building situated within the grounds of Kings Cross Hospital in Dundee. It is the old Infectious Diseases ward and has been lying empty for 5 to 6 years. NHS Tayside propose to house a number of Community Therapy departments within this one building. The project has been split into three separate contracts, Re-roofing works, Enablement works and the main building works contract. This requires the development of three pre tender health & safety plans each covering the specific health & safety plans and issues relating to each work package.
